FAQ
Questions people actually ask.
If the answer you need is not here, ring or text me. I would rather have the conversation than have you guess.
Ordering and delivery
- Where do you deliver?
- Glen Iris, Ashburton, Malvern. That is the regular run at the moment. If you are just outside it, ask, because I can often still get to you.
- How much is delivery?
- A flat $5 regardless of how much you order. Pickup is free. Most orders arrive within two to four days.
- Can I collect my order instead?
- Yes, from Glen Iris. Choose pickup at checkout and there is no delivery fee. Pickup by arrangement. I will confirm a time with you once your order comes through.
- Is there a minimum order?
- No. One bottle is a perfectly normal order and you will not be charged extra for it beyond the standard delivery fee.
- How long will my order take?
- Most orders arrive within two to four days. I deliver in person around my own week, so if you need it by a particular day just say so in the notes and I will tell you honestly whether I can make it.
Paying
- How can I pay?
- Card online through Stripe, bank transfer, PayID, or cash if you are collecting in person. Choose whichever suits at checkout. For the manual methods you will get an email with the details and a reference to quote.
- Is paying by card secure?
- Card payments are handled entirely by Stripe. Your card details are entered on Stripe’s own checkout page and never touch this website or any system I control.
- When am I charged?
- If you pay by card, at the moment you complete Stripe checkout. For bank transfer, PayID or cash nothing is taken automatically. You pay when you are ready and I confirm once it arrives.
- Can I get a receipt or tax invoice?
- Yes. Every order gets an emailed confirmation with a reference number. If you need a formal tax invoice for a business purchase, reply to that email and I will send one.
The oil itself
- Where does the oil come from?
- Murrindindi Olive Grove, the Frattali family grove at Yea in the Murrindindi region of central Victoria, about two hours north east of Melbourne. It is grown, hand harvested, pressed and bottled on that one property.
- What does single estate mean?
- All the oil comes from one property and one harvest, and is not blended with oil from any other grove, season or country. Most supermarket olive oil is blended from many growers and often several countries.
- Is it really cold pressed?
- Yes. The olive paste is held below 27 degrees Celsius during malaxation, which is the threshold that allows the term cold extracted, and the oil is separated mechanically by centrifuge. No heat and no chemicals are used at any stage.
- How fresh is it?
- The olives are crushed at the grove within 24 hours of being picked, usually the same afternoon. Harvest runs through autumn, roughly April to June. Ask for the current harvest year and I will tell you.
- How should I store it?
- Sealed, in a cupboard, away from light and away from the stove. Heat and light are what spoil olive oil. Refrigeration is unnecessary and will make it cloudy, though that is harmless and clears at room temperature.
- How long does it keep?
- Best within about a year of harvest, and noticeably best in the first six months. It does not become unsafe after that, it simply loses the aroma and pepperiness you paid for. If you have the 5 litre container, decant a bottle at a time and keep it sealed.
- What does it taste like?
- Fresh, grassy and green, with a peppery catch at the back of the throat. That catch is oleocanthal and it is a sign of a fresh, well-made oil rather than a fault. It varies a little from season to season because it is a single harvest from one place.
- Can I cook with it?
- Yes, though it is worth using where you can taste it. For deep frying or high-heat cooking that destroys the flavour anyway, a cheaper oil is the sensible choice and we would rather say so. There are ideas on the recipes page.
Sizes, gifts and wholesale
- What sizes can I buy?
- 750 ml bottle at $30, Case of 12 bottles at $300, 5 litre container at $120.
- Can I send it as a gift?
- Yes. Put the recipient’s address in the delivery fields and add a note in the special notes box saying what you would like written and who it is from. There is no pricing on anything that goes in the box.
- Do you supply restaurants and cafes?
- Yes, in 20 litre and 5 litre containers, with trade pricing quoted on volume. Because it is a single-estate oil the volume each season is finite, so we are honest about supply rather than blending to keep up. See the wholesale page.
- Can I visit the grove?
- The grove is a working farm rather than a cellar door. For anything about the property itself, or if you are a local grower near Yea wanting your own olives pressed, contact the family directly through their site.
Problems
- What if something arrives damaged?
- Tell me and I will replace it. I deliver most orders personally, so this is a conversation rather than a claims process. See delivery and returns for the formal version.
- What if I do not like it?
- Let me know within a reasonable time and we will sort something out. Australian Consumer Law rights apply on top of anything I offer, and nothing on this site reduces them.
- How do I change or cancel an order?
- Ring or text me on 0417 188 345 with your reference number. Until it is out for delivery, changing it is easy.
